In a similar spirit and for similar reasons that I outlined in #1066, I'd like to ask you to make the app available on F-droid.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Create your own repository and let F-droid users add it (opt in) manually. This is an easier and in a certain sense more decentralized than the second way described below, but requires more work and expertise on the user-side. The prominent Monero mobile wallet Monerujo chose this way.

  2. Submit the app to the main F-droid repo. This usually requires a lot of work on the dev-side to change the build procedure such that it conforms to the main repo's requirements (reproducible builds, absolutely no closed-source components, etc.). However, inclusion in the main repo makes the app more accessible and provides a strong guarantee of trust to the user. Prominent Ethereum community member @ligi chose this way with his fully libre Ethereum wallet WallETH. Status also committed themselves to gain inclusion in the main repo. Their efforts in issues 1125, 8512 and some other related ones may help you understand what the requirements are for inclusion and how to fulfill them.

Again, thank you for considering these and thus keeping crypto relevant.

As for being included in the main f-droid repo, there are already a few react-native apps available, such as https://github.com/lesspass/lesspass or https://github.com/standardnotes/mobile for reference. But is this f-droid support actually concidered by the devs here?

Is the license even FOSS?

Status.im is already on F-Droid ;)

Any chance to have metamask on FDroid? It has been two years this request was opened...

F-Droid bot had reviewed the app and made this to-do list

I only see the license issue. Unless metamask grants us rights to distribute our reproduced program, and we accept that they can use their license as is, it not possible to be done. @licaon-kter

Either a F-Droid release or a PGP-signed .apk file would be enough for ungoogled users.

As for now we have the "sha512-checksummed" .apk files on the Releases page https://github.com/MetaMask/metamask-mobile/releases

Is there any news in the meantime?

As this is not moving forward and it's doubtful that MetaMask will change their license: Can anyone kindly recommend a FOSS alternative to MetaMask, with a similar set of features, so that this issue adds at least some value to people (like myself) stumbling upon it via search?
