Environment data

  • VS Code version: 1.35.1
  • Extension version (available under the Extensions sidebar): 2019-7-21564-dev
  • OS and version: Windows 10
  • Python version (& distribution if applicable, e.g. Anaconda): Python 3.7.3
  • Type of virtual environment used (N/A | venv | virtualenv | conda | ...): venv but jupyte kernel started from conda (base)

Steps to reproduce:

I was working with the plots here: https://matplotlib.org/3.1.0/gallery/lines_bars_and_markers/categorical_variables.html

Opened the plot viewer and clicked on "export to different formats". The pdf file was created but when I try to open it, this is what I get:

  • Edge:
    image

  • Chrome:
    image

And trying to open it with PDF Reader crashes the application

Logs

Output for Python in the Output panel (ViewOutput, change the drop-down the upper-right of the Output panel to Python)

nothing relevant (just pylint not being installed)

Output from Console under the Developer Tools panel (toggle Developer Tools on under Help; turn on source maps to make any tracebacks be useful by running Enable source map support for extension debugging)

Is the file actually on disk?

I can't repro. I tried your example and the pdf I generated is there.

Sorry, it repros for me now. Only repros with release bits.

Funny! It shows here as well as the svgs and pngs:

but if I open the Apps folder, the pdfs are not there. Maybe it's a Windows problem?
