Synthesis comes with a few profile settings to help users that are targeting a language besides English.

Typical Usage

  • Turn on Localize
  • Select your Target Language in the dropdown

Localize

This should generally be turned on for non-English users

If true, then the patch mod files that Synthesis creates as output will have their localization flags on, and will use .strings files. This is important to enable when targeting languages other than English, as they allow for the more advanced and alternative encodings to be used.

Language Dropdown

This determines what language a non-localized mod should be "considered" to have. When Synthesis patchers modify a record from a mod that is not localized, they will consider it to have the language specified by this dropdown when placing in the outgoing (localized) mod.

This generally results in one of two choices:

  • You select your target language. Any mods that are not localized will be seen to be your target language, even if their text actually reads as English/Italian, or some other language. The text will be put into your target language's strings as if it was that language. This can be desired if you don't mind a mix of, say, English mixed in with in your final product. Records from any non-localized mods will keep their strings and display in-game when you're playing.

  • You select English. Any mods that are non localized will be seen as English, and thus excluded from the strings files associated with your target language. This will mean any records from non-localized mods will have their strings missing (as they didn't have any strings related to your target language)
