Is there any interest at NREL in using the ComStock datasets to make web-based tools for commercial load modeling by local planners? I think these tools could be particularly useful for municipal utilities that lack detailed consumption data.
Whom should we contact if CrossCompute wants to work on an open source web-based version of these tools? What questions are state and local planners asking that could be answered by these datasets?
Potential Benefits:
Encourage development of user contributed tools based on the ComStock and ResStock datasets
Increase usage of the datasets by policy analysts and energy planners
Reduce customer support workload by making the tools easy to run
Generate subscription based revenue that could be used to fund additional datasets and tools
NREL would retain intellectual property over the proposed toolkit.
