On linux there are specific keymap files used by the kernel to load keymaps when you don't have a graphical interface launched.
This file format is also used by cryptsetup to load a keymap to request the encryption passphrase.
Would it be possible for kalamine to generate those KBD files in addition to the XKB ones?

As Lord mentioned on the Fediverse you can generate a KBD map from XKB using ckbcomp like this. ckbcomp fr ergol -compact > ergol.map
Sadly it doesn't support ERGOL "star" deadkey.
This is a question and a feature request.
