Hi, I was watching the YouTube video introduction to OpenBB where you were explaining the capabilities of OpenBB. There were a question from somebody who asked if you were planning to have access to SEC filings 10-K & 10-Q. You asked that person what would be the reason to bring this data, and that they should connect with you after the call. I don’t know whether the person did or not, but here is my take on why this information could be interesting to investors. Mind you, not traders but long-term investors:
I am not a developer or an AI person, but I think that the full text of the 10-K & 10-Q could be extracted and summarised, so we could have access to a summarised overview of the state of the company on the quarterly basis.
From the same extracted text, we could derive the sentiment analysis which would be different from the Twitter or news media sentiment analysis. This one would be based on the management’s statement and not on Twitter or news rooms.
Important keywords could be extracted from this data like what new technologies are being mentioned. For example, they could mention terms like AI or Blockchain, cryptocurrencies, electrical vehicles, new energy sources or new biotech approaches, and we could potentially extract these important terms and count how many times they appear from quarter to quarter, or in general understand if some old or classic industry company suddenly starts to mention high tech terms in their filings. It might mean that they are getting innovative and changing the overall strategy.
We could extract mentions of their competitors mentioned by themselves or not. And later correlate the companies who do mention their competitors, and those who don’t, and their corresponding performance.
We can extract data from the management of the company about how they see themselves as an industry. For example, a company like Tesla is mostly viewed as a automobile industry company by the general public or general financial analysts, but they could be also much more than that. We might apply our own categorisation which could be more accurate.
We could extract such information as who is the current CEO or CFO/CIO of the company during this precise quarter and then correlate the stock return or revenue/income of this company against historical data on who was the CEO at that precise time. Thus, we could find information about the management performance across the time of this company. It could be interesting because if a certain manager turns out to be really bad for a company and later that manager gets hired by some another company, it means that we might expect worst result from that new company
These are just a couple of samples, but I think if we could have the full text being extracted and given as an access point through the openBB terminal or SDK as an option, smart people would find a way of using it
