i am going to pin this issue, but we are planning to abandon this project and start anew, so please do not contribute to it any more; it needs to be rebuilt from scratch (as we plan to do)

just to clarify, it's not "dead" — it's in a maintenance phase that is similar to hibernation and will be rejuvenated once we get to that next new phase (i hope that makes sense)
