As people keep asking about Python 3, it would be nice to have a deb package for Python 3. Can we package the same code for both easily @yoe ? Presumably they'd then just drop their files in the appropriate places in the filesystem and depend on the relevant Python package?

It's theoretically possible, lots of Debian packages do it, but it will require a rebuild of (at least) the python code for python3 if you want to keep python2 support.
Debian is going to remove python3 for bullseye (the next release), so I'm currently not really interested in that, but there's no reason why ola's debian/ directory couldn't support that.
