EPIC: Enhanced Baremetal Support

  • Feature Explanation:
    • Change switch fabric for the bare metal to have it on the same network as the bare metal provisioning system
    • Baremetal box PXE boots and gets provisioned to bare metal system
    • Change switch fabric back to the appropriate tenant network
    • Effectively switching VLANs on switch port for provisioning purposes
    • Mostly for security and enforcing multi-tenancy
    • Almost a HWaaS type model
• [ILIA BAKOV] Baremetal to VM virtual networking support
  • Does this exist today? (see below)

For investigation:

• ToR Switch with VxLAN termination exists today? (? with Contrail "fabric")
• We need to know what the status of the existing Contrail Fabric code is
• We need to decide if managing switch fabrics is in-scope or out-of-scope for OpenSDN
• Equivalent to OpenStack + OVS via bare metal?
• Going to need a detailed roadmap on this
• SIG call for the general discussion around managing underlay: Yandex, Mirantis, (ILIA / OYEnetworks?) and ask about others with interest
