At the moment it doesn't seem direct messages are working. And I don't suspect this will be added any time soon.

However until that's implemented, I think it would be best for the bot to reply on any direct messages that those aren't relayed or return an error or something.

Totally agree that would be best, to return a message PMs aren't relayed. If you feel up to it, PRs are most welcome!
