Currently, most Pokémon Tool cards do not have the "Item" subtype, but some do. I can see a few solutions:

  • add the "Item" subtype only to the Pokémon Tools from bw on, because there's the word "item" on the card
  • add the "Item" subtype to all of the Pokémon Tools, because before bw they have always counted as "Trainer" cards for gameplay purposes, even when "Supporter" and "Stadium" cards were considered distinct from "Trainer" cards (see https://www.judgeball.com/archives/tcg-rulebooks/ )
  • remove the "Item" subtype from all of the Pokémon Tools, because it's implied by the "Pokémon Tool" subtype that they're items (and also it might be the quickest solution to implement)

I don't know what the best solution is, so I'll just leave this issue here

I should note that this issue was oppened before the release of Scarlet and Violet, so obviously the cards from SV on should be left alone when solving this issue.
