It seems that the clamp 'head' rotates to specific orientations depending on how the parent part is rotated in the editor (see the two fans on the back of the clamp).

This is a stock behavior, not much I can do about it

I'll leave the issue open but add a deferral tag to it.

You could make the arm square so that gap doesnt appear, or maybe add an "axle" across the bracket arms so it becomes visible if the arm turns 90 degrees and does not appear to be floating.
