Regression: Metal Gear Solid 3 and 2 performance regression (#12557) #12582
Comments
There are quite a few builds between 14090 and 14057 that could be the culprit. If 14090 was the first build with the issue, then 14089 should be okay, but i suspect it isn't. If you could narrow it down further to the first actual build that caused the issue, the devs would be able to take direct action on the precise commit that caused the performance regression and provide a fix. As it is right now, they can't do anything until you provide the precise commit/build that caused the issue. |
Just went through it again. 0.0.23-14089 is the first build where it starts to lag. 0.0.23-14088 Logs: 0.0.23-14089 Logs: |
#12557 is the offending PR then |
Any other game regressed? |
We've gotten several reports of mgs3 and some from mgs2, but this regression doesn't seem to affect any other games. |
More reports from MGS2 at least from several users |
Given the severity, my guess would be the horizontal min-max returning incorrect results in some titles causing excessive data transfer over pcie. I can't verify this at the moment though. |
Hello, i think the regression also affect Silent Hill HD Collection, Silent Hill 2 in particular the fog is flickering. Some major Frame drops, However the CPU usage has been lowered. |
I can verify these findings with 14089 and above, the flickering is severe and seizure inducing. 2022-09-01.09-23-33.mp4Flickering not present in 14088 plus performance is more than doubled. 2022-09-01.09-29-23.mp4 |
Please test with #12592 |
Hi, i am new to this emulator, but had indeed been playing the MGS2 and MGS3 and also fould the tanking of frames in MGS2 on ship when you first take control of Snake, basically moving in slow motion.. And MGS 3 a save i have when rescuing the Scientist after cutscene with Ocelot the frames tank there too.. After testing through the versions i can be certain that the last working version was 14088 and 14090 is bad so assume the damage was done in 14090 or the 14089 but have not tried that one as it has a line through it on DL page, so i assume thats bad. Every version up to the newest has this problem still. Hope this helps. |
@Buffdaddy123 The issue is fixed in the latest release on rpcs3.net. |
Both MGS games working perfectly again, many thx. |
Quick summary
Hello,
I updated to the latest version 0.23-14090-80f07411 and it seems to have absolutely murdered performance in MGS3. Instead of a smooth 60 frames, the game now slows down by a large margin. Reverting to 0.0.23-14057-b66908ad3, the version I had before fixed performance.
