I think this is resolved with the fixes in the pipeline. This behaviour changes to Displace and Once Column Beside should negate the need for a specific preference.

What happens is that if the sidebar is showing, and you tap on a row, the sidebar disappears. Some people want it to not disappear. (And some do.)
