Just thought i'd throw this out there - theres a service called "shells.com" - theres a few types of them out there - its just a VPS instance.
One problem thats coming is its easier and easier to identify a VPN is being used. Those of us that use vpn dont want people to know that we are using a vpn - its easy to identify - esp if vpn provided ip address is showing an elevated abuse score.
You can see this here: https://ipapi.is/
A VPS solves this problem.
The thought - host OpenVPN server in the cloud. Use raspap to tunnel thru to that OpenVpn.
The net cost difference using VPS vs Proton, Nord, etc probably comparable.
Better still - offer a packaged solution - raspap manages the "shell" that users can subscribe to - in essence, becoming a VPN provider but in a VPS package. Shells already has a model for this.
Me personally - i just need a leap point (raspap) to communicate with an endpoint that doesnt show up as a vpn on ipapi.is.
I also dont want to waste my time messing with this configuration. An ideal solution - i buy a "managed" solution - i get a thumbdrive with rasp OS, openvpn already configured, its kept updated, and i get a dedicated VPS endpoint with a service guarantee thats managed by someone else.
