Any plans for publicly offered GCD workshop? #434

You are right, it has been a long time since we did a GCD workshop. There are a lot of reasons for this. The main is I have been doing very little by way of repeat topographic monitoring and research since 2018. I have been much more focused on riverscape health and LTPBR work. I have been teaching lots of workshops, but just on other subjects. The other reason is our last real grant work on software development for GCD was back in 2018. I still teach GCD in my Fluvial Geomorphology classes, but as we have not been updating the software, I feel the map-based AddIn to ArcGIS 10.X is now going to be obsolete with ESRI retiring support for that. The good news is the software has been really stable and the standalone still works. We are developing a new Q plugin called QRiS - Q Riverscapes Studio, where we side step all the ESRI nonsense and can provide free software on a free (and superior GIS platform). Anyhow, if we do get those funds raised (also some GUT development we're trying to get out there), I may do a new workshop someday, but it will likely be paired down and not for a few years at the soonest. Publicly offered workshops are a lot of stress to promote and market if we don't know demand is there to cover expenses. This is why I do a lot more private, bespoke workshops so one sponsor pays and the participants don't have to. We have done lots of bespoke workshops for different groups, but it is expensive. The website for GCD has much (not all) of the exercises and tutorials we typically cover in the workshop. I will be the first to admit it could use some better organization... This Fluvial Geomorph Lab: https://riverscapes.github.io/Fluvial-Geomorphology/Assignments/module-07_GCD.html, is a nice light introduction (coupled with lecture: https://riverscapes.github.io/Fluvial-Geomorphology/Course_Topics/module-07.html. Thanks for the inquiry. A long-winded "probably not", but glad to see your interest and let us know if we can point you to resources to help you get going. |
