The pain

There are ~1000 users on the leaderboard, and everyone competes with everyone else. This can be a disincentive to new users.

Suggestion

Figure: Custom leaderboards would allow people to create private rivalries

Create additional, arbitrary leaderboards. This would mean that:

• Bob Northwind and Bill Westwind could have their own private leaderboard where they compete with each other
• We could create an event-specific leaderboard, e.g. NDC Sydney 2024
• Groups could have their own leaderboard, e.g. Commonwealth Bank, SSW Melbourne, The Sydbuddies, etc.

I don't mind this idea... but I think unless we have a lot of users this would be a bit of a ghost town for the most part.

This strikes me as a feature that is better implemented once we have a reliable number of regular users.

It reminds me of the good old times of Microsoft Virtual Academy, where you can see leaderboards based on time and based on country. I tried to be among the top 10 in my country. ☺️

The conference specific leaderboard is a must have for me!! Not sure about the rest, but if we implement that as an MVP it can always grow to more.
