Right now if I lose even a single article of clothing from my loadout its gone for ever. I'd say its really important to have things be accessible on station even without considering lost drip.
for some ideas on how to prevent the clothesdrobe restock from being way to expensive I'd suggest making clothes from it value at zero or replacing it with a public version of the uniform printer.

So I am setting a target that the clothing restock box must not for any reason cost more than 1000. However, changing the cost of clothing is itself not a very good option, as well, it is kind of essential for the cargo gameplay loop. Ironically, there are entirely too many items in the game that are worth only 5 dollaries or whatever we want to call them. A damn military tacsuit costs 5 spesos.
Creating new vendors that have different varieties of clothing is a good option as well. But a generic civilian clothing printer is an excellent one too. Hell it can literally just be in the autolathe if you wish, just make the categories for it. Though the lathe UI could do with some work if that option is taken.
I'd support either approach for autolathes. I wouldn't support making clothing worthless. If anything I'd prefer that clothing have more variety of costs, for reasons related to cargo/salvage.
