I'm still not sure where the issue derives from, but and interesting mention of out of memory issues on Samsung Tablets is in this issue. The maintainer mentions the following...

There is a possible memory issue in Android with really large batches which is solved in https://github.com/litehelpers/Cordova-sqlite-enterprise-free (available with GPL and commercial licensing options).
