I'm sure that it would be much much better if you provide an option to choose lowest possible bitrate audio stream for downloading videos.

Yes, default setting consumes higher data. Sometimes 160kbps opus audios are equal to the 240p vp9.

How will you/everyone benefit from this feature?

Think about third world countries, slow internet and very expensive data.
This feature can also play a smart role to reduce global warming. You know data saving! which means less energy. Means less fossil fuel consumption. Means less carbon will be pumped into the atmosphere.
So please give this feature a try and save the planet.

Is this for streaming also or just download? Maybe NewPipe can respect the Android data saver setting and give the lowest video + audio size regardless of the other "preferred format" setting?

NewPipe has that option for downloading already, but not for watching yet
