In 2023 Barker College have 5 Science Extension students working within the Breaking Good project.

  • Two students will be working in the mycetoma area on the synthesis of new 2-aminothiazole analogues. We propose to make the analogues below.

  • One student will be working on extending our work with Daraprim analogues. We will be synthesising more material of the 4-iodopyrimethamine analogue and hopefully exploring some cross coupling chemistry at the C-I bond.

  • One student will be working on synthesising a new trifluoromethyl analogue of Daraprim.

  • One student is looking into a new project area. We hope to synthesise some fragments that can be used to synthesis new analogues of lopinavir, hopefully in collaboration with other Breaking Good members in the future. We hope to make the three acids below as starting points.

This all looks great @katieterrett!

I've shared this in the Series 2 repository for Open Source Mycetoma. These compounds are novel to the project, and we've just got back some nice data for the 3 and 4-trifluoromethyl without the nitrogen in that ring. I'm keen to see if we get better data with the nitrogen in there too as we had with the hit.
