Materials we would need to get this done (inter-school competition level)

  • Guide for students on how to register for WCG, install BOINC, attach to WCG, and see their stats. Should include pre-made materials they can use to convince other people to install BOINC. Should include very easy to understand information about what WCG is researching. Remember a core audience for this documentation is parents who will wonder wtf their child is doing with all this BOINC stuff. It should mention how safe BOINC is to run on various hardware types. This guide should emphasize more about learning and less about how to sell BOINC to people. What are some core learning goals we can include in this?
  • Guide for teachers so they can present this competition to their class, explain what WCG is, what the prizes are, what BOINC is, and how students can participate. This should include step-by-step directions for WCG registration and making a team for their school.
  • Guide for districts showing how the competition can help their students and advance their curriculum
  • Introduction letter to district that district guide comes with
  • Website for competition which includes all the above resources. Can we get a leaderboard of all the schools participating and their current ranking?
  • Consent form for participants to claim their prizes. We should have them take a picture holding the prize or something.

Tasks which we would need a volunteer or paid person for:

  • Somebody to bottom-line organizing all these roles and tasks. To check-in with each person who has volunteered to do something and make sure the something is getting done on time.
  • Somebody to reach out to wider BOINC community to find volunteers for some of these tasks if we don't have somebody internally who can do it.
  • Somebody to liaison w/ WCG and make sure they're cool with this
  • Pick prizes for individual students and for schools
  • Establish start/end date for competition, metrics upon which competition will be judged
  • Somebody to reach out to schools or districts about getting them involved in the competition
  • Somebody to send out prizes once competition is over
