I would very much like to see someone in the community make use of any Artificial Intelligence tool to refactor the ViewTouch code base with the specific aim of replacing the Bitmapped font code with Scalable font code. I would also like to see someone refactor the touch code so that a mouse click is not interpreted as a touch. Edit, November 30, 2023. > I'm suggesting that anyone who would like to see these or any other improvements in the code base or user experience and who, like me, is not a programmer, might consider funding a programmer to improve ViewTouch. If so, feel free to call me at 541-515-5913 and we'll have a conversation. I will not hesitate to point out that from its beginning in 1986 and continuing today, I worked on and developed ViewTouch without receiving a salary and relied on the efforts of only a single programmer at any given time, some of whom were paid a salary and some of whom were not paid a salary. In any case, my role was as the manager of every aspect of software development. That ensured the success of ViewTouch and the robust continuing use and refinement of ViewTouch. |

In 2022 the first, and so far the only, all-in-one ViewTouch POS computer became available thanks to the decision by the Chipsee company (China, of course) to manufacture a 15.6" touchscreen computer powered by the Raspberry Pi Compute Module. A picture of this computer is found on the ViewTouch website's home page. It is an excellent hardware solution for those who use it in the hospitality market. The ViewTouch all-in-one requires its users to provide custom mounting hardware and a wireless keyboard/mouse of their own preference. The ViewTouch all-in-one can be ordered by calling me (Gene Mosher) at 541-515-5913 (USA). ViewTouch code can be compiled to run on virtually any of the commonly available processor and small form factor single-board computers (SFF-SBC) which have become widely available since about 2015 (Raspberry Pi, and so forth). I can't test the ViewTouch boot image on all of them so I must limit my testing to the ViewTouch all-in-one. If users want to test the boot image on any specific SFF-SBC devices and let me know that it does work there then I would be happy to create a list of these devices. The latest devices I have tested myself include the RPi 3, 4, and Zero. |
