There are parts for adjusting control parameters in both the RAFT model file and the modeling options file.

Can I assume that the control parameters for calculating RAFT aerodynamics are managed in the RAFT model file, while the control parameter optimization is based on the IEA-15 tuning in the modeling options file?

Additionally, I would like to know if control optimization is performed even in RAFT-based Level 1 simulation. From my analysis of WEIS-related materials, it seems that control parameter optimization is not conducted in Level 1 simulations, but I noticed that in the modeling options file, the ROSCO part includes a tuning YAML file as an input. Could you clarify this?

Finally, if the control-related parameters are optimized, where can I find the optimized tuning file? And is there any detailed documentation or materials regarding control in WEIS?

Hello,

If you run RAFT within WEIS, it will not use the RAFT model file, but will instead create one from the input geometry.

On the effect of control parameters on the RAFT model, this response is from @lucas-carmo:

That’s a good question.
For the mean loads, we use the values from the blade pitch and the generator speed in the lookup table specified in the yaml file.
For the dynamic part, the aerodynamic loads enter the equations of motion as damping and added mass only. If control is off (aeroServoMod=1), only damping is nonzero; if control is on (aeroServoMod=1), both the added mass and damping terms are nonzero. The lack of dynamic aerodynamic excitation is something that I hope we can address soon.

WEIS uses the ROSCO controller. The optimized parameters can be found within the modeling option outputs.

I hope this helps.

Best, Dan
