Considering that «link» is one of WordPress' fixed post formats, something that could streamline a lot the visual experience is taking cues from a staple in various social networks: when you add a link in a post, by default it generates a clickeable preview with an image and text grabed from the site you link to. It obviously will look better if the linked site has the right SEO enhancements. Tumblr has an option for that (where it's also presented as its own «post format» in the UI) where this is also treated as an stand alone block and you can add more than one per post (unlike most social networks where this is more of a fixed attachment, like with photos and video). An example of this in a Facebook post:

I think it could be nice to have a block that generates a preview out of a given link and the whole block becomes clickeable for said link. Not sure if it needs to be that customizable (if one want to edit the preview image and text, for example), but its default looking «template» can change with styles.
