3.5.1 is exhibiting this issue around all fur. Even the included example fur planes also exibit this issue.

There was a previous version that didnt, I believe something around ~v2.5 back when it was patreon only. Unfortunatley I dont have an old copy to compare against.

This primarily shows up when the character, or the environment they are in front of, is in shadow.
