Problem you may be having, or feature you want

Saving downloaded episodes to the SD card.

I have a small tablet with 32gb internal memory of which about 10gb is available after OS and software. However, there is a 256gb memory card attached.

Its possible to play from it when using the "add local folder" option but I don't see an option to have subscriptions download there.

Suggested solution

An option in settings to choose whether to use internal storage or a connected external storage.

Do you have to download? Can't you simply stream? If so, you can toggle in every podcast settings "Prefer streaming". Of course with Youtube feeds, you can only stream. Some added advantage of subscribing to Youtube feeds (over the normal podcasts) includes audio/video quality settings, which I found very helpful for the types of contents.

Well it allows downloading to internal memory, or playing downloaded podcasts (via local folder) on SD.

Seems to be an issue of not using the android APIs to select a storage location (which is what Voice does.)
