By experience, having already used FreeDV, the 700 and 1600 modes of Codec2 produces quite a bad quality.
The 2020 mode using LPCNet is much better and intelligible but needs slightly more bandwidth.

Which mode (or modes) can the crypto transceiver operate and is there eventually any plan to include LPCNet 2020?

Thanks

The last time I looked into it the LCPNet devs were saying the Pi 3 wasn't powerful enough to run it real-time.

Of course this was a couple years ago. It's possible this has changed, or perhaps the more recent/powerful models of Pi can run it.

Thanks for the head up.
Yep, I guess that everything below Pi4 will not be able to cope with the LPCNet requirements.
It works on a Pi4 as I already tested following this: https://warc.org.uk/?page_id=123372

Cheers

Good to know about the Pi 4; thanks for the info. Adding support for that module is on my TODO list for this year when I have some spare time, and when I'm doing that I can see what would be involved in adding encryption to the LPCNet modes.

Sounds good as this will drastically improve the voice quality.
Thanks for the reply!
