It might be useful to store historical references to download URLs/VCS/etc. as there have been a few instances where projects moved. For example, many projects went from sourceforge to GitHub, some with a detour via code.google.com or other websites.

There could still be references to old URLs in distribution metadata as these sometimes go stale.
