Turns out plexweb is fairly transparent. I haven't tried running stuff like this in a browser yet, but:

https://server:port/hubs/sections/<library ID?>?count=12&includeLibraryPlaylists=1&includeStations=1&includeRecentChannels=1&includeMeta=1&includeExternalMetadata=1&excludeFields=summary&X-Plex-Token=<token>
