Rendered font weight changed ver.2->ver.3 on small sizes (on Windows 1080p monitor). But at the same time I wasn't able to see the difference on high DPI Android tablet. Worth mentioning that I use MacType font renderer on Windows that doesn't use hinting.
I have no idea what brought this change (no difference on Android!) and at the moment I should install ver.2 on PC and use 'Source Sans Pro', 'Source Sans 3' fallback chain.
I guess it worth checking behavior on Linux as it uses the same renderer (MacType is a port of Linux's Freetype to Windows). I bet there would be the same behavior with hinting off.

Yep. that's it (I installed OTF for ver.3). Both DirectWrite on Windows and FreeType in MacType on Windows render otf and ttf differently. Strange but I guess it can't be helped.
