In the current state, all of the files and folders in the sidebar are organized alphabetically but mixed together. A more conventional way to organize the sidebar is to order the folders alphabetically first and then order the files alphabetically, leaving folders separated from files and vice versa.

@DaBungalow there is already a pull open #3902 to introduce custom sorting.

@DaBungalow You're using Linux, correct? If so, then this is a valid issue for the default sorting.

The current code checks for (brackets.platform === "win") for Windows-style sorting, and uses Mac-style sorting for all other platforms. If Windows-style sorting is the usual case for Linux, we could easily flip the logic or add a case for "linux" here.

@redmunds That is correct. This is an issue for me as I am using Linux and much of the basic functionality that has been added to the Windows and Mac implementation is lacking from the Linux build that we have going.

Reviewed.

Closing, we already have a story for all platforms mac/win/linux here https://trello.com/c/l3ce9hgK. If you have additional suggestions for the feature, please comment in the story.
