Hierarchy of importance

The following can help you make a decision for a given question about who is your most important customer...

  1. What is good for the visitor? - Our site visitors are our most important customer. When weighing a decision, the visitor takes top priority.
  2. What is good for SEO? - Ultimately, search engines are how our visitors get to our site.
  3. What is good for the author? - The people who make the content should have an easy experience and a clear path to building a site.
  4. What is good for the developer? - Yes, you're last. There are exceptions to this rule. Chiefly: if something will be architecturally impossible to achieve or something has to be built in a way that is not maintainable, the developer needs can rise above the others.
