Youtube links #81
Comments
YouTube have stopped making it easy to access the full http://youtube.com links when sharing a video. We will need to find a solution to this soon, as more of our partners will be using and sending http://youtu.be links. |
We should add the following text on the Update page for both RSR and Partnersites: "Please use the full http://youtube.com link for posting your video and not the shortened http://youtu.be link to ensure your video displays correctly." |
Why not change the youtu.be link to a regular youtube.com link? They're nearly similar: http://youtu.be/8xSeDuhTJZI is the same as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xSeDuhTJZI |
Fine by me 👍 I know our player doesn't work with just the youtu.be link but if we can convert it when the user enters this fulfills the requirements better than messaging! |
Changing youtu.be into youtube.com links is already working. |
"When adding a Video to an Update, it is not possible to use the shortened Youtu.be links. Instead the full youtube.com links are required.
If this is not an easy fix, then it should be made clear in the admin or on the RSR Website when adding an update that the full links need to be used, to ensure that this can be done by the partner themselves. Otherwise once the update editing period is over, the Partner must then be in touch with us, to edit the link."
At the moment it is not possible use https links when embedding youtube videos in updates.
We should either allow this, or edit the validation to inform users that this will not work when submitted.
