Which table of contents do you mean? Our table of contents in a sidebar already supports this.

Sorry, I meant for the distill format, specifically. Also, to clarify, I meant a dropdown menu that shows subsections (can be expanded with a + button and collapsed with a - button).

Maybe this can be achieved using <details>, check this gist and also GitHub docs.

I agree that having the toc be automatically generated for the distill layout would be nice. PRs are welcome on this matter.
