Hard to Read Directory view -- usability issue

I am able to modify the file display area from the 'appearance and fonts'
(1) the directory listing is displayed in gray on black and the scroll bar is in dark-gray on black -- can this color scheme be modifiable
(2) on the directory listing can you enable arrow key navigation, making it possible for me to see the last entry
(3) absent that change I have a problem finding the alphabetically last element my xhr.js file
