One issue that may come up is that JPG and raw files can get different names if there was a burst of pictures taken (i.e., more than one image a second). It could be helpful to have the script add an EXIF tag that identifies the original file name so that the raw file associated with a JPG could be linked up later. Is that possible?

It would be possible but not something I've done or plan to do. I've intentionally not done too much with renaming as there are so many varied preferences on naming. Seems like a tool unto itself.
