Outgoing Traffic through VPN

I've used this shell script to successfully set up openVPN in my AWS VPC. I can access all resources in the private network but cannot access the external internet through the VPN. Is there any configuration in the script limiting this or is my problem more likely with my firewall and/or network settings?
