Yes, we all know about http://victorblog.com/2012/12/20/make-angularjs-http-service-behave-like-jquery-ajax ; but this should be built into AngularJS by default. It's a common newbie shoot-yourself-in-the-foot issue.

Ah. I see that someone else has already requested this [/issues/1743] - although no fixes are in place.
