mdTabs : md-selected attribute "none" value ?

Is there a way not to have a default tab selected?

My md-tabs are part of a topnav, but "home" (the initial state) is not part of the tabs... But the first tab gets selected by default.

Basically I'm going for the first usage scenario described in the docs :

Tabs supports three (3) usage scenarios:

1. Tabs (buttons only)
2. Tabs with internal view content
3.Tabs with external view content

Tab-only support is useful when tab buttons are used for custom navigation
  regardless of any other components, content, or views.

Is there a way to have none of the md-tabs in "selected" status at bootstrap?

Doc is unclear about each one of the 3 possible scenarios.
It would be helpful to have an example (or pen, or Fiddle, etc.) foreach one of the 3 scenarios.
