Right now the only way to select a file to use in LOAD81 is at the command line. On the Open Pandora, we have the PickleLauncher tool:

http://pandorawiki.org/PickleLauncher

This is a generalized launcher for cmd-line programs which only accept filenames on the arguments, and for now it works very well as an 'outer shell' for LOAD81 - picklelauncher -> [user selects file] -> LOAD81 -> [user ESCAPES LOAD81] -> picklelauncher -> etc. The 'piped-tools' approach could be used for this feature, or LOAD81 could have its own file-selector capability built in as the Editor functionality expands.

Just wanted to add that you can see a (brief) demo of PickleLauncher in action in this demo video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5mxSaFoSgk

Its right at the beginning - in this video, picklelauncher has been customized (its fully skin'able) with DOOM artwork - obviously it doesn't have to look like this for LOAD81. If PickleLauncher is considered as the 'outer shell' for LOAD81, we could create a custom LOAD81 skin that features artwork more along the style of LOAD81 (C64'ish, etc).
