Can we have access to the alert variables such as $DESCRIPTION outside the set mail-format function?

Hi,

I am trying to send the alert message description into my Slack channel. I am able to call the slack script to send a message before monit takes any action.
I wish to ask if there is a way I can pass alert variables such as $DESCRIPTION, $ACTION to my custom script via my Monit Control file.
