This is bound to have been asked for before...

As I'd like to store my control file(s) (.monitrc) in Git it would be unwise to put the mailserver SMTP password directly into the file.

  • Is there any way I can use an environment variable to define my plain-text password so that I can safely revision-control my control file?
  • If not, are there any plans to support this, even if it's just for password fields in things like the mailserver command?

I can work around the problem for now by pre-processing the file with something like autoconf or pyconf but that introduces an extra step.
