It would be useful to add support for functions with side effects in the revset query language, so that we can speculatively perform a sequence of commands, possibly referring to outputs of previous queries / commands.
This idea was originally surfaced (to my knowledge) in #553 (reply in thread), but I figured I'd create a top-level discussion thread for it
