In the Image HDU header, there is no mention of the data type via TFORMn value (letters: L, K, J, ...). Instead, the number of bits used per image pixel is given (BITPIX).
But looking at Table 18 from FITS standard, there is no one-to-one correspondence... For example, a BITPIX of 8 could be either B (unsigned byte) or L (Boolean).
How to choose then?
