Flags, env vars, config file, etc.

quiet: provide bare minimum details (e.g., think "summary" at the end)

silent: provide no details, just an error code

Not sure whether silent should default to attempting syslog logging? Perhaps if the option is given, do as directed and any "oops" is on the user to figure out what happened?

Seems harsh, but there may not be a way around it that doesn't involve making assumptions.
