I've been on and off as to whether or not the complex template is too complicated (or at least, too complicated to understand for anyone who isn't me!) — any opinions on the matter add them here.

I've found the puzzle template useful to reduce the need for multiple cards, but I'm also working on a cloze template. Perhaps we could separate them into these categories eventually:

  1. Simple
    • What does this code do?
    • What's the syntax?
  2. Puzzle
    • What does this code do?
    • Solve a hard problem
  3. Cloze deletion template
    • Guess the missing code

Whatever the case, I've found it easier to keep the questions simple, following some of these rules. Basically, one question at a time, that's directly related to the question without being misconstrued.

For simplicity, I've decided to reduce the complexity of 'Complex' theme and rename it 'Puzzle' theme .. I wasn't using the What's the syntax? option very often in complex theme, and it's actually a little overwhelming at-a-glance (as well as remembering what each component field does). From the SuperMemo article:

Simple is easy

By definition, simple material is easy to remember. This comes from the fact that its simplicity makes is easy for the brain to process it always in the same way

This should be the mantra I stick to in future.
