the proxmox password being stored in plaintext is a massive security issue for me. is there any way to hash it instead?

hey @dhelgerson that's not possible. If you were using a hash, you could transmit it in the same way.
It's best to create an extra proxmox user who only has read access to the VM information.
Apart from that, only the root user should be able to read and execute the script.
