UPDATE: now it's NOT working. I ran a backup overnight, and by morning, the USB adapter had crashed. [38806.030742] r8152 3-3:1.0 eth5: get_registers -71 I found that the NAS was ok, except it had no connection to the network. I accessed it via the gigabit adapter. Next, I reboot the DS1517+ to see what happens. The USB adapter is still missing. My conclusion is that the Cable Matters USB is UNSTABLE with with DS1517+ |

Adapter: Cable Matters USB C to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter,
NAS: DS1517+ (avaton) with 2GB RAM
DSM Version: 7.1.1-42962 Update 6
Driver version: r8152-avoton-2.17.1-1_7.1.spk
I noticed that my NAS is not in the compatibility list.
I got it working, but not at first. It failed to start, and after a reboot, I tried again, and it worked.
Note that Package Manager allows you to "retry" loading the driver after it failed, but that doesn't work. You need to reinstall -- that is, do a 'manual install' for the 2nd time,. upload the file and then it was successful. Do not use 'retry'.
I tested performance and it is good, but the DS1517+ has an older CPU, and it only pushes 87% of the 2.5G ethernet. I think this is because of the weak CPU. My DS923+ can fully saturate 2.5G ethernet. Overall i'm happy with the outcome.
