Messed up my 2015 MacBook Pro... HELP!!! #28
Comments
Step 8 (codesign) probably wasn’t completed properly. Do you still have the backup file? Restore that backup file using instructions outlined in the troubleshooting section. |
I deleted the backup file... if I reinstall the zip file and open it, will that work? |
Hmm that wouldn't work. If I were you, I would look in the installer image to see if there is a |
uh also you'll have to make sure it's signed. Otherwise the problem would persist. You can either find a pre-signed version or sign it yourself with |
Thank you so much, I will try that when I get home (I don't have access to my computer for several more hours) I did see the Sidecar core file open in the Activity Manager |
I'm having this same issue on my 2012 Macbook Pro. No date or time. I still have the back up but can you specify the direction or the location link of the directions so i can fix this. |
Instructions are outlined in step 7 of the troubleshooting section in the readme. The one titled "I want to revert to the original |
Hi there, I'm using a MacBookPro 2012, and I'm experiencing the same issues. I tried to apply the backup to restore the original, but it doesn't work. I also tried doing the codesign step again but the terminal says "the codesign_allocate helper tool cannot be found or used" |
Ps. I also have csrutil disabled just fyi.. so I don't know what's going on. |
In the troubleshooting section of the readme there is a section for "the codesign_allocate helper tool cannot be found or used" |
See if you are able to download X-code from the App Store . If you can , do it . Then, let it download, add the additional tools, and run the steps again. This worked for me .
Please excuse the brevity and any grammatical errors as I’m typing this message from my iPhone.

Thanks ben-z: At some point I have tried to reinstall the backup. Then I applied the steps 6 & 8, with the csrutil disabled, and then everything works again. I'll try redoing all the steps following it with a fine tooth comb after doing a time machine backup. |
I have the same issue -- I get there error "codesign-allocate helper tool cannot be found or used". I cannot solve this and my mac is extremely unusable (crashes everything with right click, control c/v, arrow keys, terminal crashes constantly). I use the terminal for work and it is currently almost nonfunctional. Urgent help is needed. Thanks Early 2015 model macbook pro |
@mmcguffi restore the backup file and you should be fine. Just copy |
Hey ben-z I need your help ASAP. I have similar problem, I can't open any apps after completed all the steps. Even tried to put the original SidecarCore back and the problem still persisted. Could you help me? When csrutil is enabled, Finder keep crashing and wouldn't open. What I notice on Finder/Safari crash log is something about SidecarCore, I'm pretty sure I followed all steps, included the signing part. Here's the log : Date/Time: 2020-02-11 02:11:25.802 +0700 Time Awake Since Boot: 260 seconds System Integrity Protection: disabled Crashed Thread: 0 Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x5] Code Signature Application Specific Information: Dyld Error Message: Binary Images: Model: MacBookPro12,1, BootROM 189.0.0.0.0, 2 processors, Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 2,7 GHz, 8 GB, SMC 2.28f7 |
Disclaimer : I've used your app in every update of macOS Catalina to re-enable the Sidecar. But the problem happened just now. |
Does it return to normal after you restore the backup file? Find a way to run step 8 again. Looks like you didn’t sign the binary after copying it into the system folder. |
I'm pretty sure that I followed all steps. I ended reinstalling macOS from recovery mode and everything just fine. |
This issue is stale because it has been open 30 days with no activity. Remove stale label or comment or this will be closed in 5 days |
I had the same results. I'll test everything again! |
If you total screw it up and can’t figure it out just reboot in internet recovery mode and reinstall the OS. I did this after I screwed up the back up file and everything is working fine again. I then made sure I had the most recent Xcode installed and started again |
You should ask people to do time machine backup before making the changes, now my machine is screwed up, can't open browser and can't see datetime 😭 EDIT: I actually forgot to run an additional step on step 8th for macOS Catalina 10.15.4+, but after I run the additional command and reboot I got it working woot woot |
After installing and using terminal commands, my Mac does the following:
I have deleted all of the sidecar files (that I could find) and it still doesn't work.
I am very angry that this happened to my computer, and would like to fix it ASAP without having to reset and lose files (I also want to keep Catalina)
I have no recent backups of my machine (my bad)
